Our History

Founded in 2003, the Killingworth Women’s Organization is a local group of (40) philanthropic women volunteers dedicated to helping others in our town and maintaining a network of women to build a stronger sense of community for ourselves and others. We are affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Connecticut (GFWC/CT) and GFWC International (GFWC).

The Killingworth Women’s Organization-GFWC, Inc. (KWO) was founded in 2003 by Mary Ellen Wilson and Gena Murray. Thirty women became the charter members of the KWO. In July 2003, the charter members voted to join the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC).

Since its formation in 2003, the KWO has organized and participated in events to further this mission including town-wide toy and gift drives for needy children and senior citizens, a town-wide Halloween event for children and their families, participating on the local Youth and Family Services Healthy Communities Healthy Kids Coalition and conducting fundraisers to contribute monetary donations to the Killingworth Library, Helping Hands and Haddam-Killingworth Youth and Family Services. In addition, each year we have raised funds to be able to offer scholarships to graduating female students and have continually participated in the creation of comfort pillows to aid women after breast cancer surgery.

The KWO is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Tax-deductible contributions are always appreciated and can be sent to: KWO, P.O. Box 952, Killingworth, CT 06419.
